The observance of the first Saturday in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is intended to make reparation to it for the sins of mankind. This devotion was revealed by the Blessed Virgin to three children, Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia to whom she appeared at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.

In the 17th century, Jesus appeart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at the convent at Parlay Le Monial in Burgundy, France. St. Margaret Mary received from Him the Sacred Heart Devotion, which taught the means of acquiring "perfect love" of Jesus Christ and tender devotion to His Sacred Heart. This devotion involves attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion on the first Friday of the month for nine consecutive months in reparation for those who do not receive or love Christ, or who wound Him. The promise attached to this devotion is none other than the assurance of graces necessery to get to Heaven.
